What is really interesting is that most of the people in very well paying, professional theater positions do not have any college education. A lot of them pretty much jumped right into theater work during or out of high school OR they have military service. Theater productions are very ordered and scheduled. Service in the military gives you the skills to be a theater roadie much more effectively than most college degrees.
In fact, I have seen a lot of “college types” get laughed out of the theater community from the start. While I’m sure each theater college has their “hero” that made it in the business, the vast majority of those with theater art degrees are not working in entertainment ten years after graduation. Sad but true.
It would be difficult to advise you, not knowing what sort of coursework you would be taking, but I would imagine that you could do scenery making or props or costume design or lighting design… Basically, anything to do with fabrication for performances as well as directing.
